THE BEGINNING LINK
LINK was a dream that started many years ago as Amy Miller and her husband Ed began their search for a daughter to complete their family.
The Millers were not the typical prospective adoptive parents. Amy and Ed had two biological sons, but felt that their family was not yet complete. After two pregnancies with many complications, the Millers decided to pursue Adoption. Amy had watched her oldest sister experience the gift of a child through adoption when her niece joined their family in the early 70's. Amy remembered holding her niece and praying that one day she might be given the gift of a child through adoption.
Faithful trusting Born-Again Christians, Amy and Ed prayed daily for the daughter they dreamed of and spent countless hours researching adoption options. The excitement began one Sunday in early 1994. Church family prayed for the Millers to be blessed through adoption. The following week, the Millers appeared on a local Christian cable television show and told the story of their desire to adopt. The following day the show aired, and a young lady contacted the Millers. She had a three-year-old daughter she was no longer able to parent and was seeking assistance in locating a forever family for her. Amy immediately began to look for help for this young mother. Although the child wasn't a newborn, after much prayer the Millers felt God had placed a gift at their grasp. Could this be the child God intended for them? Upon hearing the Childs birth name, the Millers realized that God indeed had sent them this child. The little girls name was the same name the Millers had chosen to give their first daughter. Kayla Nicole arrived at their home the following day for a visit with the family. The daughter they had been praying for named by her birthmother the exact name the Millers had chosen for their daughter. It could not have been a clearer message!
God was working in the Millers lives, he had planted a seed that one day would sprout and impact thousands of other Christian families. Amy and Ed realized the need for an organization to assist couples through the process of private adoption. They began praying for direction in starting a ministry that would assist others in their adoption journey, support and encourage open adoption, and provide Christian referrals to agencies and lawyers. A group that would link birth parents with Christian adoptive parents.
Amy began working for a local Christian businessman who not only had a heart for children, but also adoption. Upon hearing her vision to provide a service that would assist other Christian couples in obtaining information about the available options of adoption and waiting children, LINK was formed. In July of 1996, LINK opened for operation. Funded by local Christian businesses, Churches, and pro-life organizations LINK quickly became successful in helping dozens of families adopt. The first year in operation proved to be successful. During that first year, a young lady contacted Amy for counseling. She was considering ending her pregnancy by abortion, but was curious about adoption after watching a local news channel featuring a story about Amy and the assistance LINK could provide young women experiencing unplanned pregnancies with no where to turn. After counseling with Amy, the young lady made the awesome decision to carry her child to term, and place her in the arms of a loving couple wanting to adopt. Amy assisted her in making her medical appointments, provided transportation to and from doctors' visits, scheduled ultrasounds and simply became her friend. Seven months into the pregnancy, it was determined that it was time for her to choose a couple to raise her baby. Much to the Millers surprise, the birthmother and father, requested the Miller family as the adoptive parents for their baby girl. After prayerful consideration the Millers accepted and prepared to be parents for the 4th time. The Millers second daughter was born two months later on Thanksgiving Day They named her Taylor Elizabeth.
Nine years later over 600 Christian families have successfully completed their journey through adoption with the assistance of LINK. LINK is a testimony to what faith, prayer and trust in God can accomplish. God has blessed many couples through this ministry.
However, without the support and prayers of loving Christians many children would have died at the hands of abortionist. Many couples would still have empty arms. The financial burden of this ministry is way beyond the Millers means, yet daily the ministries needs are met by others who care.
Our dream is that all women facing an unplanned pregnancy will realize that there is never an unwanted child! For every child conceived, there are the empty arms of a childless couple waiting.
